Melodies of life....
Our paths they did cross, though I cannot say just why
We met, we laughed, we held on fast, and then we said goodbye
And who'll hear the echoes of stories never told?
Let them ring out loud till they unfold
It seems like only yesterday that the class met for the first time during the orientation, yet now it's less than a month away from the A's and for some, less than 2 months away from NS. 2 years came and went. "People gather, people part, but the memories are forever" (人聚人散,但回忆是永恒的.) the Chinese aptly puts it. I remember on my first day in RI, my form teacher then, Mr Jerry Ang(RI ppl should remember him as the D and T teacher) said to the class, " Whether you are here willingly or not does not matter, what matters is that now that you are here, you have a choice: To create good memories or bad memories."
A voice from the past, joining yours and mine
Adding up the layers of harmony
And so it goes, on and on
Melodies of life,
To the sky beyond the flying birds--forever and beyond
Looking back on the 2 years, I think the class really put in the effort to create good memories. Though through a layman's eyes we may not have achieved much (those boring statistics and figures of MSGs, percentage passes or those obscure inter-class competitions, ie. racial harmony day o_0), I guess it's the small things that count in the end. "We can do no great things, only small things with great love" (Mother Teresa) Perhaps face/pink clip/who are you jokes, the water bottle catfights, the "wrestling matches", the scissor-paper-stone clear plates routine may not count as small things with great love(for some of them, there is certainly no love lost), but undeniably, these are small things with the innocence that contrasted against the rest of the RJ environment and hence are forever etched in our memories. So, what defines our class? It's very hard to say what defines the class as ultimately, the class is defined by every one of us. I guess one of the reasons why I like our class is our ability to accept a person for who he or she is. We do not force people to conform to a certain "class image" but instead we engage the different aspects of every one to create a dynamic image that is truly representative of us.
So far and way, see the bird as it flies by
Gliding through the shadows of the clouds up in the sky
I've laid my memories and dreams upon those wings
Leave them now and see what tomorrow brings
As chem rep, I must say I had a wonderful time working with all of you. Though I often had to double up as physics rep *glares at lloyd* and at times the lack of initiative is rather appalling, I guess that's part of being a "happy and contented" class. I never did regret taking up the post and it was a great learning experience. My final words as chem rep would be spent nagging. No matter how happy and contented you are, please DO mug for chem. chem is not try, chem is mug. I think we owe Y2k something for all the efforts he had put into teaching us. I think teachers have the worst job in the world, you can't choose who to teach and yet you are fully responsible for how the student turns out. I believe all of you have seen Mr Yeo's dedication and passion for teaching and A levels is our last chance of doing something for him. So, let's try not disappoint him, k?
Melodies of life
Come circle round and grow deep in our hearts
As long as we remember
Finally, I just want to thank every single one of you who has in one way or another, made a difference to my journey in RJ. All of us would moving off in different directions after the A's but we would always be connected, by an invisible thread linking up those who keep 06S06A in their hearts. We may meet again, we may not, but I guess 20 years down the road, if we meet gerbert along the street, we still can crack that face joke and have a good laugh about it. I'll end off with a quote from my favorite band mayday, 五月天(second to X-Japan though)
我从来不会想说,
那种..
如果时光可以倒流的这种话。
因为....
时光如果真的可以倒流,
这一切就不会那么的珍贵....
(Sorry lloyd, no translation cause the "feel" to it disappears when i try to translate it. Get someone more pro to do it for you.)
Excerpts from Melodies of Life, soundtrack of FFIX. Very nice song, those who want can ask from me online.
Edit: Haha, the wonders of youtube. Found the ending for FFIX which contains the song.
